An Action Packed Trip To Wales

As much as I do love climbing and it is my main sport, I am honestly just as in love with the outdoors! Luckily a couple of weeks ago I got the opportunity to go away to Wales with some great people and I thought I would share some of the highlights in case you are looking to head of on a Wales adventure over the summer! I mean everyone should… Wales is beautiful!

Our trip was very short and sweet as we travelled up to Wales on the Thursday night and we were already travelling home again by the Sunday. Because of this we could we were a bit limited on what parts of Wales we could travel to as we did not want to spend the majority of the time in the car travelling! In the end we found a very cute airbnb 30 minutes outside Swansea. This was a perfect location for us as it meant we could go and explore the area around Swansea whilst also being close enough to the Brecon Beacons. I really wanted the opportunity to explore the Brecon Beacons and this location really allowed for that!

This was our AirBnB at Plas Newydd Farm. The property was called the Granary.

To start our adventures off we headed down to Caswell Bay. This is where we spent all of our first day in Wales! I would 100% recommend a visit to this Bay. Considering how small the Bay was, it was a beautiful hidden gem with loads to do. In the morning and the early afternoon we had a walk around the Bay which is absolutely beautiful. We were totally blessed by the weather however I recon it would have been stunning either way! If you just look at the photos you would not think they were taken in England. There was also what looked like to be some bouldering routes and some lovely costal paths for I hike that I would deffo like to head back to try in the near future.

The main reason for out trip down to Caswell bay however was for our surf lesson with Progress Surf School. It was my first time surfing and was absolutely incredible. Although sadly I did not get as far as standing up on the surf board, I had a lot of fun trying! The 2 hour lesson was definitely a great first taster into surfing as I definitely needed some guidance on how to catch a wave and the instructors continued to help and give me great advice even after I continuously fell off :P I will certainly be back to give surfing another go. I would recommend taking a lesson with progress surf school if you fancy trying out surfing as it is a great way to introduce yourself to the sport in a great location.

Oh my God it is crazy how much of a workout surfing actually is though… I knew you had to be energetic but I understand why it is called an extreme sport now! My arms and legs were jelly by the end!!!!

Surfing very much wiped me out! I was so exhausted so other than cooking a really yummy dinner nothing else was done on the Friday.

Most people, after a very active day would take the next day to rest and relax… not us! We then spent Saturday doing another crazy fun activity. This time it was Gorge walking.

I had done Gorge walking in Wales before however the experience was so much better! If you don’t know what gorge walking is, it is basically scrambling, climbing, rock hopping, jumping in to water, swimming and squeezing your way up a gorge. We did lots of cool jumps which was so exhilarating. Some of the jumps were about 6 meters high which sounds a lot smaller than it felt when we were jumping! There’s a compilation of the Gorge walking on my instagram if you fancy checking it out (you will find it in the videos tab). The company that took us gorge walking was Blue Ocean Activities and they took us out for well over 3 hours! This was a very long and amazing way to really explore the Brecon Beacons. It was definitely pretty chilly however because you’re always moving it you got used to it! Another great part of the Gorge walking experience was when we had to do one of the jumps we had to walk through a waterfall to get to it first.

Although not particularly adventure related, in the evening we decided to explore some of the nightlife in Swansea. There was so many funky activities you can give a go, with copious amounts of bars and clubs. We went to Old Havana for 3 for £10 cocktails and also had some rounds of crazy golf at Bunkers! Its safe to say we all got pretty tipsy ;) The cocktails at Bunkers were incredible!!! Would 100% go back there for another night out!

I was very shocked by how busy the high street was at midnight so I can guarantee there was a lot more nightlife to discover!

Even with an hangover we decided that we couldn't waste our final day in Wales so we set back out into the Brecon Beacons to do a hike. We ended up doing the 4 waterfalls hike which honestly was one of my favourite parts of our trip. I am not going to go into it in this post though as I am going to do a separate blog post on that hike in case any of you would like to do the hike as well!!

So that brings me to the end of our very short but sweet Wales adventure! I am so grateful to have amazing friends that will go on trips away with me like this!! Did I convince you to go check out what South Wales has to offer? Any guesses where my next adventure will be?

*Please note that the gorge walking experience with blue ocean activities and the surfing experience with progress surf school were gifted experiences however all opinions are my own. They did not ask me to post about the experiences on my blog however I loved the experiences and genuinely recommend you giving them a go!*
