A Hidden Gem of Snowdonia! The Rickety Walkway of Fisherman’s Path

One of the more well-known ‘hidden gems’ of Snowdonia is the Fishermans path. I have seen many TikToks of this path over Lledr Gorge and on my most recent trip to North wales, I felt like I had to check it out!  This trail is definitely not for the faint hearted and could be considered pretty dangerous so by no means am I encouraging you go visit the pathway, I am just sharing with you what I found.

What is it?

Above Lledr Gorge in Snowdonia, is a series of rickety looking structures which has some amazing views. It’s said that the structure is of Victorian origin and seems to have been built by local workman using materials you see abandoned throughout the quarry region. It is obvious that there have been many repairs to the structure and the ropes but is certainly still a bit sketchy.  Apparently, many climbers use it as an approach to the Trad routes at Craig Rhiw Goch.

How to find it?

I found the easiest way to get to the location through a tiktok video but there is many in the video that believe the location should not be shared because it will get ruined from overuse. Also the route is pretty dangerous and on private land so I will not share the location. If you are an adventure addict like myself and still want to check the location out with a little bit of googling you should very easily be able to find the location. But please please please if you find the location please stay safe and be super respectful of the structure!

My favourite spots

Some of my favourite things on the route included lots of mini waterfalls and some beautiful steppingstones across the river. If you are a little scared of doing the route you can do the Afron Lledr and the Fisherman’s path walk which will take you along the opposite bank for some beautiful views of it. I loved spending a lot of time exploring further upstream from the fisherman’s path which was a stunning spot as well.

Leaving no trace and be careful

This is a very old, pretty dangerous structure so its super important that you keep yourself safe when walking across it. Go with a group of people so you’re not doing anything sketchy on your own; take it slowly and proceed with caution! Its also important that you are super respectful of the area as its important to preserve this via ferrata.

A beautiful hidden gem with a lot of history in the midst of Snowdonia! Let me know in the comments if you have ever found this :)
