A last-minute adventure packed trip to Cornwall

This was definitely a lastminute. Com camping trip to Cornwall. I didn’t book the campsite till literally the day before we went but I had a couple of days extra holiday to take off work and wanted to make the most of it so Cornwall seemed like a pretty good bet. It was only a short trip- left on the Sunday and back by the Wednesday but boyyyyy did I cram a lot into those couple of days while we were there.

The worst thing about going to Cornwall must be the journey- it took about 7 hours to drive down to St Ives (where we were staying) which is quite a considerable way- I always forget how far west Cornwall is! Anyway, when we got to the campsite, cutely names Treenook farm, we got to pitching up my new tent which was by core equipment. I would 1000% recommend the 6-person camping tent as it is so spacious, so easy to set up and pretty darn cute. It also had a built in light which came in really handy. I deffo managed to get some cute Instagram pictures in it ;)

By the time we had done all the travelling and set up in St Ives it was already getting pretty late but this wasn’t necessarily a bad thing as it meant that we just had enough time to make it down to Lands ‘end before sunset! This was an amazing experience- probably one of my favourite adventure moments this entire year! I managed to find a pathway down to the rock where I was able to do some scrambling and find some incredible views. The sunset was spectacular and the views were priceless. It was so peaceful. I would recommend that you head down after 5 o’clock as most of the attractions are closed other than a little pub which means that it is super quiet, and you don’t have to use the official photographer by the lands’ end sign you can take all your own photos- not to mention sunsets are the best!

We didn’t slow down for day two either. In the morning we headed down to this super quiet hidden beach that was a 10-minute walk from our campsite. The beach was called Lelant beach. What I loved the most out of the beach was that dotted around the edge of the beach was all these caves which you could head into and explore. It was so beautiful; it would have been so much fun to paddleboard along this beach but sadly couldn’t fit it in the car with all my other stuff… next time!!

To keep with the beach theme, we also headed down to Fistral beach in Newquay to do some coasteering. I’m going to do a whole separate post on this so I’ll leave it at it was awesome for now!

Now obviously as a climbing girl… I had to squeeze in some climbing while in Cornwall. It was difficult to find any sport or top rope climbing in Cornwall as most of what I could find was trad. Trad climbing is sadly not something I can do currently so I did a bit of research and was told that Trewavas Head had some nice (reasonably low grade) climbs that could be set up as top rope. After about a 20-minute walk from the carpark to the crag it became apparent that this was going to be pretty difficult to set up a top rope as there were very few anchor points. In the end we were able to set up an anchor point on a rock which was certainly inventive, and I probably wouldn’t recommend. The views and climbing at Trewavas head was a 10/10 however I would not recommend trying to top rop… 100% should be trad only.

Sadly, we also had a bit of a failed attempt at our next stop as well. We headed down to St Michael’s mount to take a walk around the island however we couldn’t get our hands on any tickets. So instead we settled to have a little wander around the beach, have a look at st Michael’s mount from the shore and then head to the pub. Not what we expected to be doing but was still super fun!

That pretty much brings me to the end of the trip- already at Wednesday! However, Wednesday morning after packing up the car we had a quick trip down to Casswell bay where we did an hour of kayaking on the sea! Kayaking was a great way to start the day… something I should try do more often :)

We also had a quick pop into Port Isaac on the way home. This is where my dad’s side of the family grew up so holds a special place in my heart. I would recommend walking down the beautiful little sea-side town streets and having a climb up on the sea wall. I think next time I head down to Cornwall, I will stay in Port Isaac as it’s so beautiful!

For a last-minute trip to Cornwall it certainly was a fun one! I am not sure id be able to fit any more in if I tried! When was your last trip down to Cornwall and what was your favourite thing you did when you were there?
